A.     Library Period

Each class is scheduled to have their library period every month.  During that period, the students are engaged in well-planned activities that will enable them to participate and find pleasure in reading.  Library instructional lessons and storytelling are some of the activities being conducted.

Reading Time.  During this period, learners will be exposed to books that cater to their needs and interests.  Other ways to promote the love of reading are providing magazines, book displays and favorite books on display.

Storytelling.  As a learning tool, storytelling can encourage children to explore their unique expressiveness.  It can heighten a student’s ability to communicate thoughts and feelings in an articulate and lucid manner.  To facilitate learning outcomes, students are introduced to a certain theme that focuses on a particular author’s collection.  These will be the materials for the storytelling.

B.       International Book Week Celebration

Once every school year, the library prepares activities that are in line with the celebration of International Book Week.  The objectives of the said event are to make learners recognize the importance of reading; to explore learners’ knowledge on the importance of reading in learning; to encourage the learners to express their ideas and feelings on the activities provided; and to enhance learners’ skills in the creation and composition of the set activities provided.

Author visits are exceptional ways to promote reading as it provides students with the opportunity to meet an author and find out where they get the ideas on how to write a story.

Winners of this event will be given a prize of having a chance to visit other school’s library.  This will make them aware the importance of library in school and as a student and life in general.
